Oxford restaurants on the Square were certainly not singing the blues Saturday night.  Many were hosting free blues performances as part of the third annual Oxford Blues Festival.  With the music, came fans.

“The Oxford Blues Festival brings out a lot of blues enthusiasts that otherwise wouldn’t necessarily come out.  It gives a new type of business,” said Chelsey Pearman, manager of Soulshine Pizza.

It was an ordinary day in the late spring semester. Students scarfed down their food and complained about finals, while others delighted in being one year closer to graduating. Suddenly, amid the normal ruckus, a lone girl started dancing to “Jai Ho.”

More and more people leaped from their tables and joined her dance. Soon the straggling eaters in the Union were all following the rhythm of “Jai Ho.” This was a successful flash mob account from two years ago.

For some students at the University of Mississippi, Union Unplugged is the face of National Pan-Hellenic Council Greeks.

The event, which usually happens every Tuesday, has become a showcase for traditionally black sororities and fraternities. The energetic step routines always attract a crowd of students to the front of the Student Union every week.

Ever since our generation got its hands on the computer, Google was the search engine god of the Internet. It answers all our questions from health diagnostics to directions to our favorite restaurants.

Since everyone thinks so highly of it, we expect a genius team to come up with anything and be successful at it.

Location-based applications like Facebook Places, Foursquare and others seem like fun to many smartphone users. They are used to let friends know where they are, to look up local businesses or to play games that earn them virtual points, badges or store discounts.

Location-based applications like Facebook Places, Foursquare and others seem like fun to many smartphone users. They are used to let friends know where they are, to look up local businesses or to play games that earn them virtual points, badges or store discounts.

However, the sharing of one’s location has opened up a debate about privacy. The Wall Street Journal did an investigation of the issue and published an article in December 2010 about their findings.

After Oxford’s submission for Google Fiber national broadband Internet in 2010, some concern has surfaced because a decision has not yet been made.

Google was originally set to make an announcement in late 2010 as to which city or town would win the broadband Internet.

Stewart Rutledge volunteered to help Oxford receive the Internet service and has been the leader of Oxford’s participation in the project.

The iPhone is no longer exclusive to AT&T.

The iPhone is no longer exclusive to AT&T.

Starting Feb. 10, those with Verizon as their service provider will have the option to purchase an iPhone. This is a large step for Apple and the mobile phone community.

For those who have complained (myself included) of poor AT&T service, we now have some form of respite. Already AT&T is jockeying to steal and/or keep iPhone customers.

Talk about the job that baseball coach Mike Bianco has done.
That’s another one where he’s set the standard so high that you think in terms of being in a Super Regional and disappointed to a certain extent.

Like I tell him he’s the reason that our expectations are that high. Year in and year out he puts a great team out there.

I read something pretty disturbing the other day.

I read something pretty disturbing the other day.

Apparently in New York, there is a spat between the Fox Network and Cablevision, a cable service provider. It has even gone so far as for Cablevision to stop broadcasting Fox’s content.

Now, this happens from time to time when networks and cable service providers fail to negotiate pricing for content.

Basically, what happens is an elementary school equivalent fight where only the consumer loses.
