Larry Sparks, vice chancellor for administration and finance, said this is the beginning of many current and future projects.

A new central mechanical plant is being built, which will house things we use on a daily basis, like water, air conditioning and heating.

For a number of years, the University of Mississippi has flirted with the halfway point between students from the state and students from elsewhere among the freshman class.

This year, 52 percent of the freshman class is from out of state, according to early estimates from applications received at admissions, said Larry Ridgeway, vice chancellor of student affairs.

The University of Mississippi’s $3.4 million purchase of the old Whirlpool site was a buy for the future.

The University of Mississippi’s $3.4 million purchase of the old Whirlpool site was a buy for the future.

Larry Sparks, vice chancellor for administration and finance, said the site will allow the University to start development on the south side of Mississippi 6, but that developing the site for major use may be beyond his tenure.

He said that discussion on what to do with the property would start now, however.

On a typical weekday afternoon, a line of about 30 students stretches around the corner by the Kinard math lab. In previous years, lines on a Thursday or Friday afternoon weren’t abnormal, Marlow Dorrough, director of freshman mathematics, said.
