Ole Miss’ Kayla Snow arrived in style at the Miss Mississippi competition wearing a red one-shoulder, ruffled M.M. Coutoure dress by Miss Me.

During her pageant interview, Kayla wore an elegant, side-swept, dark blue Calvin Klein dress with a diagonal ruffle. Adorned with a jewel neckline, this classic yet flirty dress showed off Kayla’s personality.

Football is something synonymous with Mississippi; really, with the South in general. Families are born and bred by it, friendships are formed by it, and sometimes even broken up by it.

Football is something synonymous with Mississippi; really, with the South in general. Families are born and bred by it, friendships are formed by it, and sometimes even broken up by it.

Football, in its essence, is something far more than a game. To explain the use of this term: It is a violent game filled with great risks. Players are injured every day, yet the public still comes back each season, buying their tickets, and preparing themselves for another season of wins or losses: All in the name of the game.

Last year I told you about some scary movies you should consider to get you in the Halloween spirit. Would you like some more of that? Good. I tried to make my choices a little more obscure this time in an effort to help you broaden your horizons. Just remember, it’s Halloween. Everyone’s entitled to one good scare.

To commemorate the occasion, the university is hosting a number of events centering on Meredith to celebrate the anniversary, labeling it “50 Years of Integration: Opening the Closed Society.”

The admission of James Meredith, the first black person integrated into Ole Miss, created an integration struggle that allowed prejudice to hang heavily in the air.

Many students and faculty associate James Meredith’s arrival with the opening of the doors of opportunity to the black community. But to Ariel Blanco, president of the Latin American Student Association, the promotion of Meredith’s integration signifies something more.

“Integration means a mix of cultures, ethnic, racial, religious and creed differences,” Blanco said. “It means bringing all of these together into one.”

Bobby King, a Corinth native who was a journalism senior at Ole Miss in 1962, said Sept. 30 started out just like every other Sunday.

It is that time of year again, folks: Hallow’s Eve is just around the corner to scare the pants right off you. But in all seriousness, Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. I thought once I went to college, I would have to retire my enthusiasm for Halloween, but actually, it got even better.

It’s been a long semester. Exams, papers and the much-hated group projects seem to all be stacking up. During these periods of extreme anxiety and sleeplessness, it’s necessary to have a good laugh.
Luckily for you, there is a good opportunity for some chuckling this weekend.

New York prog-rockers Coheed and Cambria can be a tough sell.  They combine a plethora of different styles, with influences ranging from Rush to Iron Maiden to The Band.  All they’re albums are concept albums, based on an epic science fiction story conjured up by lead vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez.  Sometimes their music is a bit out there.

Fall is slowly but surely creeping in. Football has started. Not long from now the leaves will be changing colors and girls will be breaking out their sweaters and boots. Cooler breezes will begin to stir, and with this weather change comes a change in what fruits and vegetables are in season.

The Dodge Dart that most people remember was a V-8, rear-wheel drive, drag strip king that put fear into any driver who dared to cross its path.
Of course, it also had an interior that could be rivaled by a Greyhound bus and put fear into many Dart drivers because its brakes worked about as good as a Roman Chariot’s.

In our culture, we like comparing things.
We see it in everything, especially in entertainment. There is remake after remake, and while some are improvements, others tend to take away from the true quality, the true art that its original once owned. We like to better things that never needed any betterment in the first place.

“The Expendables 2” is a big, loud, thrilling, overblown ride that, once it really gets going, never lets up.
Despite my love of Sylvester Stallone, 80s action flicks and explosions, I was pretty underwhelmed by the first “Expendables.” The movie that promised to have all my favorite action stars fighting side by side was actually pretty dull and uninspired, and most of the stars were relegated to cameos.
“The Expendables 2” is everything the first movie wanted to be and more.

Camping and kayaking are wonderful ways to have good, clean fun, reconnect with nature, and blah blah yadda yadda  bite me. No, camping in campsites is fun, and kayaking down well known and well charted rivers is just a hoot. This story is not about that. Indeed, this story is about as far from it as you can get, unless your tribe’s name is Flecheiros and you spear your daily lunch-fish from a river in the Amazon.

For new college students, moving to Oxford has been quite a big adjustment. Many students here at the University of Mississippi are from big cities with bigger malls, and now here they are in a small town like Oxford with not much selection. While there is plenty to do on campus like lazing in the Grove, partying on Fraternity Row or catching a movie in town, our dear Oxford is lacking in one particular area. Shopping! Typically the go-to place for shopping is the Square.

Mosquitoes. Hordes of them. Thousands, no-millions. As thick as the night sky, they descended like the blood-thirsty vengeance of mother nature herself. For six long hours we suffered through the plague of insects. I tried everything I could think of. We emptied a can of 40 percent Deet repellant. We wrapped ourselves in our hammocks. At one point I even tried burying myself and smearing my body with mud.

With over 200 locations across the four corners of the United States and every where in between, Pita Pit has found a new home in Oxford.
Located on North Lamar Boulevard, right off the square, owner of the new Pita Pit, Jack Brighenti, thought this would be the perfect location to provide healthy eating to both students and the Oxford community.
He is the owner of two other Pita Pits, which are located in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. His newest location is the first to open in the state of Mississippi.
