When Ole Miss plays Tulane in New Orleans Saturday, more than football will be on the minds of both teams.

When Ole Miss plays Tulane in New Orleans Saturday, more than football will be on the minds of both teams.

It’s the first game for the Green Wave since the injury to senior safety Devon Walker, who fractured his spine during a game against Tulsa on Sept. 8. A New Orleans native, Walker is a cell and molecular biology major who earned a football scholarship after walking on to the team in 2009 and started the first two games this season for Tulane.

This is a sensitive issue, I’m quite aware. Native Ole Miss students are hypersensitive to out-of-state students who have not been lifelong Ole Miss fans and have allegiances to more than one football team.
I, having grown up in New Orleans to an LSU alum, hold dual fandom and have been called a traitor for even suggesting that I like LSU.
Please refrain from tweeting me things about corndogs; I don’t understand that comment and I fear I never will.

Another crop of freshmen have made the journey from their homelands to Oxford. Once again, about half of them are from Houston and Dallas.
As I have split my life between New Orleans, Oxford and Dallas, I think I have a helpful perspective about Texans in Oxford. I’ve heard rumor that Texans can be obnoxious and irritating with our pride about our home state. I have a few tips to help these Texans make a smooth transition between the Once and Future Republic of Texas and Oxford.
Call Texas “The Once and Future Republic of Texas.”

With over 200 locations across the four corners of the United States and every where in between, Pita Pit has found a new home in Oxford.
Located on North Lamar Boulevard, right off the square, owner of the new Pita Pit, Jack Brighenti, thought this would be the perfect location to provide healthy eating to both students and the Oxford community.
He is the owner of two other Pita Pits, which are located in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. His newest location is the first to open in the state of Mississippi.

Coming off back-to-back losses this past week against top-ranked Kentucky and Vanderbilt, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team returns to the road tonight, travelling to Rocky Top to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Both teams are long shots for the NCAA Tournament at this point, but it’s a key match-up for two middle-of-the-pack Southeastern Conference teams looking to finish the season strong and improve their seeding for the SEC Tournament March 8-11 in New Orleans.

It’s been six years since Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans.

Some things will never be the same in the Big Easy, but maybe that’s alright. Hurricane Katrina provided the fresh start the public schools of New Orleans needed. As the levees crumbled, hundreds of schools were destroyed.
