CNN, NBC, CBS and FOX News have projected that President Obama has won California, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon, New Mexico and Ohio.
This confirms that President Obama has won the election.
The only states that remain to be decided are Virginia, Florida, Nevada, Colorado and Alaska and the president is leading in three of the five states.
President Obama currently has 274 electoral votes, which is enough to clinch the election.

In this week’s installment, The Daily Mississippian’s sports editor David Collier will rank the 14 Southeastern Conference teams. Opponents, game times and television networks are also included for each team.

1. Alabama (2-0, 1st last week)

The Crimson Tide steamrolled Western Kentucky to get the 35-0 win last weekend. It was a nice break for Alabama before they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. this week to face the Razorbacks. Despite the Arkansas upset last weekend, it should still be an electric atmosphere and the Crimson Tide's first real road test.

This week: at Arkansas (1-1), 2:30 p.m., CBS

2. LSU (2-0, 2nd last week)

The Crimson Tide had a lot of new guys playing bigger roles, and there were some question marks about how soon they would play well as a unit. Those questions were answered in Alabama’s 41-14 drubbing of Michigan this weekend.

This week: Western Kentucky (1-0), 2:30 p.m., SEC Network

2.     LSU (1-0, 1st last week)

With the Republican National Convention about to get underway, the burning question for CNN right now is: How does the 24-hour cable news network recover from, what a story in the L.A. Times calls, “one of the worst crises in its 32-year existence?”

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The best way to determine a major college football champion seemed so obvious to so many for so long. Just have a playoff.

Now the people in charge of making that decision are on board, too.

Come 2014, the BCS is out. Playoffs are in.

While drinking my coffee and reading the usual morning fare, I happened upon an article in the Washington Post that intrigued me: Summer myths, such as one shouldn’t swim for 30 minutes after eating, are bunk. How can it be bunk? I’ve heard that my whole life.

Recent activity in Maryland, Connecticut, Washington State, Massachusetts and New Jersey raise alarm and hope for employees’ privacy rights.
After complaints from employees being forced to divulge social media passwords to their employers, states took action to prevent further privacy breaches.
The Password Privacy Act of 2012 builds on the existing law of Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Initially, the law was used as a tool for individuals to protect themselves from hackers.

Last week, the U.S. media circuit was abuzz after Hilary Rosen, a prominent Washington insider and well-known adviser to many members of the Democratic Party, made an insensitive statement in which she said that the Republican Party nominee Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, “had never worked a day in her life.”

The right to life is one of the most dearly held freedoms that we enjoy as Americans, followed closely by the right to make choices without government force or coercion. These two rights are fundamental from the Declaration of Independence to the Bill of Rights — life and liberty.

The movement to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United vs. Federal Elections Commission ruling and confront the idea of “corporate personhood” has never been as important as it is today.

The movement to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United vs. Federal Elections Commission ruling and confront the idea of “corporate personhood” has never been as important as it is today.

During a Republican primary and with the general election just down the road, hundreds of millions of dollars have already been poured into the race, and corporations are already trying to buy the election.

In the Feb. 9 edition of The Daily Mississippian, Benjamin Lowery, a graduate English instructor, criticized my analysis of the Republican primary. Specifically, he took issue with my suggestion that candidates should lighten up on the negative campaigning and consider suspending their campaigns to unite around a single, solid conservative. More precisely, I was referring to Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), and I’m glad Mr. Lowery has given me the opportunity to articulate why Santorum is a deplorable choice for the GOP.

The 2008 presidential election between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama was purported to be about hope and change; the next president was going to change the status quo from a gridlocked Washington to a Washington that worked for the American people, rather than lobbyists and peddlers like Newt Gingrich, corporations and Wall Street. But the voters eventually got what they deserved.

Greyshirting

A greyshirt is when a recruit delays his enrollment for a semester so his eligibility clock doesn’t start until January of the next year. The player can take less than a full load of classes and work out but can’t practice or play with the team. It is used by schools to create more room to sign players when scholarships are tight.

Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech nearly 49 years ago, rallying over 200,000 civil rights supporters in Washington, D.C., during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Just over a week ago, Kelly Shannon and a group of University of Mississippi students were recognized for their efforts, this time through community service in King’s name.
King’s legacy lives on through Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and observed as far away as Hiroshima.

Why is Newt Gingrich running for president?

As Republicans are hopping off the Herman Cain train, former Speaker Newt Gingrich is gaining momentum in the current GOP presidential field. This marks a huge turnaround from a month ago, when experts were declaring Gingrich’s political aspirations a thing of the past. But as Republicans start to jump on the Gingrich bandwagon, they need to analyze who they’re really supporting.

Best Matchups

Quarterback — Eli Manning, Giants (at Patriots) — Manning is quietly having an MVP-caliber season as he has led the Giants to a 5-2 record. The Patriots’ defense has been atrocious, particularly in the secondary, so Manning should have another big day through the air.

The Big 12 has approved bringing in West Virginia to replace Missouri when the Tigers complete their move to the Southeastern Conference, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The Big 12 has approved bringing in West Virginia to replace Missouri when the Tigers complete their move to the Southeastern Conference, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because neither the school nor the Big 12 had announced that its board of directors unanimously approved inviting West Virginia when Missouri's spot comes open.

For the first time this football season, The Daily Mississippian breaks down the upcoming week in fantasy football with the best and worst matchups, so you can make your push for the playoffs or the top of your league as bye weeks continue for NFL teams. Look for this feature every Tuesday, just in time for most leagues’ waiver wire deadlines.

Best Matchups

Quarterback — Joe Flacco, Ravens (vs. Cardinals) — The Cardinals have a poor secondary and if they load the box to try to stop Ray Rice and the Ravens’ running game, Flacco should have a big day at home versus Arizona.
