Head basketball coach Andy Kennedy held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season. There are a lot of expectations surrounding the program, and this year's team is arguably the most experienced team Kennedy has had.

Sophomore slump: It’s is a common phrase in the sports world. It refers to a player who had a breakout rookie season and is experiencing difficulties in their second year when expectations are high for them to succeed. For Ole Miss women’s soccer goalkeeper Kelly McCormick, it’s been the exact opposite kind of sophomore season.

“There’s no age, there’s no perfect rubric for being a leader,” Nkemdiche said. “If you want to be courageous and step up and lead by example, lead vocally, why not? If my teammates take that into their perspective and respect that, why not keep doing it and show up every weekend?”

When someone is rated the No. 1 player in the state, expectations are through the roof. It was no different for sophomore wide receiver Vince Sanders when he came out of Noxubee County High School in 2010 rated the No. 1 player in Mississippi. Along with that came the stress of being a highly sought-after recruit and the ultimate decision of where to play college football.

In this week’s edition of Four Downs, The Daily Mississippian football beat writers Bennett Hipp and Matt Sigler, sports editor David Collier and managing editor Austin Miller answer four questions regarding the week’s matchup.

1. Will one of the quarterbacks solidify himself as the starter for the rest of the season?

Bennett Hipp (@bennetthipp): I think if Bo Wallace starts and plays well, he can take a step toward solidifying himself. I’m not sure one game is enough to make it a done deal, as he’ll have to limit interceptions and turnovers going forward no matter what.

1. How do you think Tulane handles the adversity of playing their first game after the serious injury to Devon Walker?

Bennett Hipp (@bennetthipp): I think it'll be very emotional for them as they get back in the swing of things for the first time since the injury. I don't expect the game to be very close, but I'd be shocked if Tulane gave Ole Miss anything but its best shot as they honor Walker.

However, Ole Miss’ Jaylen Walton has done just that. The Memphis native has three touchdowns on the season, all in different ways — a 10-yard touchdown run against Central Arkansas in the season opener, a 51-yard touchdown catch against UTEP and most recently, an electric 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Texas.
